Description:

An investigation into the physics of light and our journey toward healing, connection, and wholeness. The reductionism and materialism of our modern world make it easy to imagine everything can be cleanly broken down into smaller and smaller parts. Yet the straightforward example of light in a hologram, which can't be reduced to its parts, points to an underlying interconnected reality--a wholeness. Physicist Sky Nelson-Isaacs uses numerous familiar examples--rainbows, music, photography--to illustrate a fundamental wholeness found in nature. Just as light is filtered as it passes through a filmstrip, Nelson-Isaacs points out that our human experience is filtered through thoughts and feelings. This view provides an explanation as to why, in our daily lived reality, we can feel so broken and not-whole. Nelson-Isaacs weaves together cutting-edge ideas into the nature of space and time and original research, with a compelling message of urgency. The filters we use to make choices everyday hide important information from us, leading us away from experiences of flow. Through synchronicities, we are led to life lessons tailored to our readiness for change. Nelson-Isaacs reconsiders the view of time itself, suggesting that we live not just in this moment but on a timeline of history, part of a wave moving from our past into our future. Every choice we make shifts what is available to us. Can we learn to rethink our lives and reality to remove our filters and realize the wholeness that we have inherent in ourselves and in our world? Yes, says Nelson-Isaacs--and once we do that, we can use the multiverse of possibilities to make choices that help us heal and grow into a greater sense of ourselves.

How Quantum Activism Can Save Civilization

How Quantum Activism Can Save Civilization

Description:

Beginning with Taking the Quantum Leap by Fred Alan Wolf, there have been a number of books that have created new paradigms for integrating science and spirituality. These books have been long on theory and short on application. This work represents something completely different for this genre. In his previous book, God is Not Dead, Goswami proved that not only are science and religion compatible, but that quantum physics proves the existence of God. In this new book, Goswami moves beyond theory into the realm of action. He asserts that quantum thinking is striking the death blow to scientific materialism; that quantum thinking allows us to break from past bad habits and bring us into of free will and possibilities. Beginning with the question: "God is here, so what are you going to do about it?" Goswami calls for a plan of action that involves applying "quantum thinking" to a variety of societal issues. He issues a call for a spiritual economics that is concerned with our well-being rather than only our material needs; democracy that uses power to serve, instead of dominating others; education that liberates rather than shackles; and new healthy practices that restore wholeness.

Description:

Through oral histories, interviews, embedded observation, and research, the daily struggles of women returning to life after incarceration and concrete solutions to the seemingly hopeless issue. At the end of 2019 in the United States, women comprised the fastest growing population within the criminal justice system. Despite this fact, their journey through this system has not received extensive attention; it is only beginning to be documented. As a result, the impact of women’s incarceration and reentry—both on their own lives and in the lives of their children and their families—is neither well understood nor effectively confronted. Sociologist Jorja Leap argues that all aspects of these women’s journey must be illuminated to fully grasp the issues. Leap explores first the traumas girls and women suffer, then the particular challenges faced by women in the criminal justice system, in incarceration, and throughout the reentry process. Leap tells the stories of women who suffer childhood abuse and neglect, including for example, Clara, who suffered twice—once as a child within the welfare system and then as a mother whose children were removed from her care and placed within the system—highlighting the ways the system fails women in particular. She finds that the lack of reentry programs is directly related to rates of recidivism, concluding that the cycle of trauma is the embedded in the system of reentry. Having spent countless hours embedded in the reentry programs that do currently exist, including Susan Burton's A New Way of Life, Leap tells the dramatic stories of many women caught in the system, She closes with several future-facing chapters. The experiences of formerly incarcerated women must be translated into lasting structural change through the development of meaningful programs and policies. Leap delves into pilot programs that offer meaningful models for changing the cycles of abuse and trauma in the lives of women.

The Religion Of Tomorrow

The Religion Of Tomorrow

Description:

A provocative examination of how the great religious traditions can remain relevant in modern times by incorporating scientific truths learned about human nature over the last century. A single purpose lies at the heart of all the great religious traditions: awakening to the astonishing reality of the true nature of ourselves and the universe. At the same time, through centuries of cultural accretion and focus on myth and ritual as ends in themselves, this core insight has become obscured. Here Ken Wilber provides a path for reenvisioning a religion of the future that acknowledges the evolution of humanity in every realm while remaining faithful to that original spiritual vision. For the traditions to attract modern men and women, Wilber asserts, they must incorporate the extraordinary number of scientific truths learned about human nature in just the past hundred years—for example, about the mind and brain, emotions, and the growth of consciousness—that the ancients were simply unaware of and thus were unable to include in their meditative systems. Taking Buddhism as an example, Wilber demonstrates how his comprehensive Integral Approach—which is already being applied to several world religions by some of their adherents—can avert a “cultural disaster of unparalleled proportions”: the utter neglect of the glorious upper reaches of human potential by the materialistic postmodern worldview. Moreover, he shows how we can apply this approach to our own spiritual practice. This, his most sweeping work since Sex, Ecology, Spirituality, is a thrilling call for wholeness, inclusiveness, and unity in the religions of tomorrow.
